Link — Linking Locals is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013. This notice explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what your rights are.

1. What information we collect

When you submit a listing, we collect the information you voluntarily provide, including your name, business or organisation name, contact details (phone number, email address, WhatsApp number), location (address, province), and any photos or media you upload.

When you post a comment, we collect your display name (if provided) and the content of your comment.

We do not collect payment information directly. Any payments for featured listings are handled through third-party payment processors.

2. Why we collect your information

Your information is collected for the sole purpose of displaying your listing on the Link — Linking Locals platform and allowing users to contact you directly. We do not use your information for automated marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Platform.

3. How we store your information

Listing data is stored securely in Google Sheets via Google's infrastructure. Comment data is stored in the same system. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

4. Who we share your information with

Your listing information (name, contact details, address) is displayed publicly on the Platform so that users can discover and contact you. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing or commercial purposes.

📌 Your contact details (WhatsApp number, social media link, email) are only shared as part of your public listing. If you do not want them displayed, you may request removal.

5. Sourced listings

Some listings may have been sourced from publicly available information. In such cases, only publicly available information is displayed. If you are the owner of a sourced listing and wish to update or remove it, please see Section 7 below.

6. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you.

Correct any inaccurate or outdated information.

Delete your personal information and listing from the Platform.

Object to the processing of your personal information.

Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your rights have been violated.

7. Request listing removal or data deletion

To have your listing and/or personal information removed from the Platform, please email us at hello@linkinlocals.co.za with the subject "POPIA Removal Request" and include your listing name and the email address used to submit it. We will process your request within 5 business days.

8. Cookies & tracking

This Platform uses browser localStorage to save your liked and saved listings locally on your device. No cookies are sent to our servers and no tracking pixels or advertising scripts are used.

9. Information Regulator

If you believe your rights under POPIA have been violated, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa at www.justice.gov.za/inforeg or email inforeg@justice.gov.za.
